In the field of ethnographical traditions, pottery is salient, together with embroidery with a rich legacy of its own. Hódmezővásárhely is one of the centers of the ceramics art, including folk pottery, of the Plains even today, the base material to which was provided by the excellent quality clay found just outside the city. The variety of its patterns was inspired by the three distinct styles that evolved in the three districts of the city. The 7000-year ceramics art of
Hódmezővásárhely still lives on in this Plains city of crafts.

An unique exhibition has opened on 7th July 2006 in Hungary. Through the history of a town the Memorial Point shows the fate of the people first in Hungary, and maybe first also in Europe, and wakes memories of the past period between 1945 and 1990 when the communist era, the soviet occupation and the party-state were prevailing

This exhibition is a travel in time. It has a grip on the visitors and flies them back to the past. In the course of the road the painful and joyful memories of the former half century appear before us and that period can be experienced again. Who and how did experience the above-mentioned half century in Vásárhely? Who are the creators and suffering parties of the period of almost fifty years? The creators of this exhibition have recorded more than one and half hundred memories for which the most personal experiences of the people living in Vásárhely are discovered for us. The most doleful and the playful stories can be known. These memories can not be regarded as only black and white since the obscurity of the weekdays can be always suppressed by enjoyment of life of the inhabitants. At the same time the eyewitnesses of the era recall the stories that should not be discovered and they recall the people who might not
be mentioned. The exhibition arranged in the building having the architectural features of three centuries shows the history by means of the up-to-date means, special objects and effects, as well as the unique spectacle should be emphasized too. The Memorial Point is also the centre of meetings and conversations. If anybody will come to the Memorial Point so he/she does leave rich in experiences. The visitor would take not only knowledge along but he/she
can feel to get in human closeness to the history.
