The famous flowers of Kalocsa

A branch of Hungarian folk art renowned abroad is that of Kalocsa.

The colorful floral patterns adorned not only the textiles here, but this is the only place in Hungary where the women decorated the walls of rooms, the porches of houses, furniture, picture frames, Easter eggs and pottery with them. And,
based on these and in order to preserve the treasure trove of design motifs, porcelain. The local embroidery is also famous, which decorates the cotton shirts, the undershirts, the aprons, the handkerchiefs and the bedspreads. In the Porcelain Workshop, beautiful porcelain is decorated with the design motifs of Kalocsa and its vicinity.

Production of paprika spread in the region in the middle of the 16th century, but never achieved such a successful career anywhere that it has in Hungary.

Many important factors contributed to the paprika of Szeged and Kalocsa becoming a hungaricum. The excellent soil, the high number of sunny hours, scrupulous and painstaking selection and cultivation, and, naturally, centuries of experience and love of this spice have all played roles. The red paprika has earned its prestigious place both at home and throughout the world as an essential part of the world-renowned Hungarian gastronomy. Its color, flavor, aroma, and potent seasoning ability elevate it to the rank of natural enjoyment spices and make it an indispensible ingredient among our additional nationally protected, trademarked products.
